Great points all! This piece summarizes what I saw in the series too. It occurred to me that all the forces that motivated men then are present today. (Humans will be human…) the whitewashing of history that I learned as a child - wow, how that perpetuated a white supremacy narrative around the founders, that served the purpose of thwarting the power of all of us.

I haven't watched the series yet, but I appreciate your commentary and will keep it in mind.

Abigail Adam's enjoined John to "remember the ladies," which this series neglected to do. A few token comments about wives, daughter's, and camp followers do not honor the toll that the war exacted from women. The series is a work of genius; I'm dismayed that women got such short shift.

Thank you for outlining Washington's motivations. Once again I see more deeply how many elite whites were largely motivated by greed. That seems to be the poisonous root coursing through the entire history of this country.

All of your attention to detail and points are exceptional. Thank you for your time on this. I get fatigued by the battle details - your insights give new light to motivations and underlying themes.

Savages, indeed! And that moment with Brian Williams was awesome. Full of love & grace!

I had no idea about Washington's role in Sullivan's genocide of the indigenous tribes while in pursuit of vengeance for the tribal support to the British (while believing the British would honor their right to their lands). What a horrible mess greed makes of the world.
